Verity- Now Traditionally Published- Is Available Now!
About the Book
A "sublimely creepy" psychological thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover (Tarryn Fisher, New York Times bestselling author).
Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.
Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of the night her family was forever altered.
Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents could devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue loving her.
Review
*Reviewed at time of indie release in 2018. The content has not changed.
When I heard Colleen Hoover was independently publishing a thriller, I was beyond excited. I love her style of writing and a few of her romance novels sit on the list of my top favourites. I was intrigued and eager to see what kind of twisted tale she would spin when tackling this genre. The story that played across those pages was dark and disturbing, with elements that made me cringe. It was perfectly creepy, and everything a thriller should be.
Hoover's Verity was all-in-all a character-driven, fast paced, and gripping thriller. It was anxiety-inducing, with enough suspense to make your gut clench. I loved it; couldn't put it down! The build-up, right through to the ending, was intense. It left me with my mind reeling, wondering what was fact and what was fiction. The fact that you don't get a definite answer, makes the conclusion all the more frightening. You can choose what you believe to be true, but you won't know for certain if you're right.
Hoover's writing was superb and I would not hesitate to read a thriller by her again in the future. In fact, I do hope she continues to explore the genre. I highly recommend this novel to someone looking for an eerie thriller!
