Review: Just Getting Started by Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black

Just Getting Started is book two in the Fair Lakes series. While it is marketed as a standalone novel, the story and characters are interconnected, so it is my personal recommendation to read the books in order.

Release/Reading Order:

It's Not Over (Gwen & Harrison's Story)

Just Getting Started (Gabby & Chase's Story)

Can't Fight It (Colton's Story)

Today I'll be sharing the blurb as well as my review for Just Getting Started. If you're interested in learning more about either author or the other work in this series, visit their websites posted below.

Gabby My life isn’t exactly going as planned. I’m basically floating up a certain creek without a paddle. Desperately needing a new place to live, I receive an offer I can’t refuse, and you never look a gift horse in the mouth, right? Unless that particular mouth is connected to an uber sexy manwhore that makes me want to punch him in the face and then kiss him until I pass out from lack of oxygen. I must avoid him like the plague. Chase Gabby Connor; there is no request too small in my eyes. When I blurt out an offer I know she can’t refuse, I don’t think either one of us realize that our lives are about to change. Something else I didn’t comprehend, how hard it would be to keep my hands off of her, or my mouth, or my… you get the picture. It’s our time, no more hiding or waiting in the wings. I’m pulling out all the stops. I’m tired of being in the friend-zone. It’s time to take what I’ve always wanted. But nothing is easy for us. Our road is full of twists and turns and a few surprises along the way. When push comes to shove and the cards are thrown on the table, can we navigate a new life, especially when we’re just getting started?

Review:

I'm going to start by saying that I did read the first book in the Fair Lakes series when it came out, but I don't remember a lot of it, and I don't recall the glimpses of Gabby and Chase or their dynamic in that story. I wish I did. I think I would have enjoyed their journey more if I had. I rarely re-read interconnected series books when another is releasing but I should have with this one, because it wasn't a true standalone to me. I felt like the part where Gabby and Chase catch feelings and fall for each other was missing. When their romantic relationship did take off (rather quickly) it was cute, sexy, and they had fun banter, but I wanted that initial development. In the end, I thought that Just Getting Started was a sweet, entertaining story, but I wasn't completely invested in the romance.
