R E V I E W :
The Deception is the second installment of the Maximum Security series but it can be read easily as a standalone novel. The pacing of the first half of the story was on the slow side, but the suspense aspect of the plot kept me intrigued. There was enough action, intensity, and mystery to keep me turning the pages. Unfortunately, I didn't feel overly invested in the romance between the main characters. While Jason and Kate shared some sweet and heated moments, the romantic connection didn't feel strong or deeply emotional. That aside, I enjoyed their flirty dynamic as they investigated the crimes together. Overall, I found The Deception to be a satisfactory read. I would be interested in reading the next novel in the series, The Betrayal, when it releases.
