New Release Review: Fight Dirty by Emily Goodwin
A B O U T T H E B O O K :
Owen Dawson is one of Eastwood’s most eligible bachelors. He could have any woman he wants, but when it comes to settling down, he only has eyes for Charlie Williams, and he blew his chance with her years ago. While Owen is busy trying to convince everyone—and himself—that the playboy life is for him, Charlie is trying to put her life back together. After discovering her fiancé was cheating on her, Charlie packs her bags, leaves her fancy New York job, and goes back to the one place she never thought she’d return to: home. Determined to start over and stay far, far away from men, the last thing Charlie needs in her life is her first love, Owen…and the old feelings that come rushing back the moment she lays eyes on him. While Charlie swears to avoid romance of any kind, Owen is willing to do whatever it takes to prove he’s a changed man and win Charlie back…even if it means fighting dirty.
R E V I E W :
As a whole I really enjoyed Charlie and Owen’s story and I can’t believe this is the end for the Dawson Family Series. Charlie was a likable heroine. Strong, resilient, kind, and relatable- I'd be friends with her. Owen... I loved his cocky confidence! He also had a sweet side to him and I enjoyed seeing that side more as he fought to win Charlie over. In the initial third of the book I was hoping to get more of a feel for how serious Charlie and Owen were in the past, seeing as this is a second chance romance. I felt I got that in the second two thirds and I began to really root for them to reconcile. From memories they shared, looking at old pictures etc, I gained that belief that this was a couple falling in love for a second time; a couple whose feelings for each other never really went away in the first place. Their conversations and interactions were full of fun banter and sweet moments spent reminiscing, as well as building new memories and getting reacquainted. Bonus- their intimate moments were sensual and passionate too! All-in-all, a fun and light-hearted read. The dialogue was entertaining, and the characters were full of charm. The conflict and drama was realistic and not over the top. If you love a slow burning second chance romance, add Fight Dirty to your list of books to check out this summer!
