New Release Review: Your Life Is Mine by Nathan Ripley

This is the first novel I have read by Ripley, and although I didn't love it, I'd still be willing to check out his previous or future work.

P L O T :
*As found on Goodreads Blanche Potter never expected to face her past again—but she can’t escape it. Blanche, an up-and-coming filmmaker, has distanced herself in every way she can from her father, the notorious killer and cult leader, Chuck Varner. In 1996, when she was a small child, he went on a shooting spree before turning the gun on himself. Now, Blanche learns that her mother has been murdered. She returns to her childhood home, where she soon discovers there’s more to the death than police are willing to reveal. The officer who’s handling the case is holding information back, and a journalist who’s nosing around the investigation is taking an unusual interest in Blanche’s family. Blanche begins to suspect that Chuck Varner’s cult has found a new life, and that her mother’s murder was just the beginning of the cult’s next chapter. Then another killing occurs.
MY T H O U G H T S :
When I came across the blurb for Your Life Is Mine I was intrigued by the cult aspect, and so I decided to give this new-to-me author a try. It took me a while to get into the story, and I can't honestly say I was ever fully invested. The pacing for a good majority of the story was slow, and only really picked up in the last quarter. As the story unfolded there were a couple predictable twists, and the conclusion was underwhelming. After all the (slow) build up, the wrap up was too quick. In the end, this thriller wasn't an exciting, memorable read for me.
