Review: Maybe Later by Claudia Burgoa
Claudia Burgoa's newest novel is a departure from her usual emotional and angsty romances. Maybe Later gives off a more lighthearted feel with a good dose of fun, flirty humor. I wasn't a huge fan of the introductory writing format- the back and forth emails. I much preferred reading the regular dialogue and narrative that came further on into the story. I didn't find I really got a good feel for the characters true selves until I passed that initial chunk of email only chapters. I wanted to connect with them earlier than 40% in. That said, I was still interested in the story and I did feel I eventually got to know the characters enough to care about what happened to them along their life path. The chemistry between the budding couple was cute and sweet, and the thought of them making a real go at love grew on me as their relationship progressed. While the little twist along the way wasn't a surprise, that wasn't bothersome to me. It was a nice spin on the typical office romance, even if it was easily detectable. In the end, while there were a few issues I had with the writing style as well as the time it took me to connect to the characters, I still enjoyed the easy, laid-back feel of Maybe Later. Check it out if you're interested in a light and breezy romantic read.
