We’re moving in the morning" are words that crushed me and sent my life spinning on its axis. Twenty four hours after my father's sentencing, everything changed. I left behind my high school life along with cheerleading and all that it encompassed. In an act of rebellion, I gave the hot senior the one thing I could never get back. Me. Then, in a flash....I was gone. My mom checked out mentally and my sister left and changed her name so any relation to my father would never be known. I became an outcast, overlooked and thrown away. I was alone. Except for the memories of the man who showed me more tenderness in one night than any other man has in an entire relationship. Christopher Losing her sent me into a tailspin, I never got the chance to see her again and I found myself in more trouble than I ever thought possible. I was jailed, dishonorably discharged from the military for disruptive behavior and I sold my only football stud brother down the river for a gambling debt I couldn't pay. I had to carve out a piece of life for myself away from my superstar of a twin, so I disappeared after my legal battles buried me. I moved to Texas and became a bull fighter, but the little blonde I met all those years ago proved to be more dangerous than any bull I would face. She recklessly gave me her body and I never gave it back. Since then I’ve been tied to her heart. I lost her once and I don’t intend to again. Even if I have to tie her up myself.
R E V I E W :
Reckless Ties is the fourth (numbered as #3.5 as it is a novella) book in The Cave Series. It can technically be read on it's own, but reading book number three prior would likely make it an even more enjoyable book, as some of the secondary characters are primary ones in the previous installment. It was a quick and light read; a little to insta on the love meter for my personal taste, but still an entertaining story.
Christopher and Jami (aka Scarlet) haven't seen each other in eleven years but once they cross paths again, those butterflies, feelings, and memories from the past quickly stir to life. Flashbacks were used to show the reader their interactions from the past, which made their immediate connection in the present slightly more believable. They went to high school together, had a few flirty exchanges, shared one night of pleasure, and then didn't see or speak to each other again until present time.
For me, outside of fairytales, I struggle with accepting insta-LOVE, so I wasn't on the same page as the characters were emotionally. I am much more easily convinced when it comes to insta-LUST and developing love or if it's a true second chance romance, so the fast-pace of Jami and Christopher's feelings and declarations of love was hard for me to 'believe in.' I did, however, enjoy Jami and Christopher's banter, and the intimate scenes were passionate and sexy!
In the end, Reckless Ties was a satisfactory addition to The Cave Series. If you enjoy instant connection and love between the main characters in your romance reads, this might be a great choice for you! I am looking forward to reading what Teri comes up with next.
