Review (New Release): Big Bad Cowboy by Carly Bloom

My Thoughts:

Bloom brought the heat with Big Bad Cowboy! It was a unique and intriguing story, had a bit of that enemies-to-lovers vibe, and while not an actual retelling, I adored all the nods to the Little Red Riding Hood fairytale. There were a few situations or scenes I found to be predictable, but overall this was a quick and easy, enjoyable read. I loved how the main characters could be sharing flirty banter one minute and then bickering the next. The humor made for a few laugh out loud moments. Maggie was a frustrating character at times in the beginning, but as her character grew and developed I started to see her as a more feisty heroine, and I liked her spirit. Travis had a nice mix of the good guy and alpha personality. Mostly he was sweet, but in certain situations his take charge attitude presented itself ;) The author certainly created believable chemistry between the two characters. Big Bad Cowboy is the first book in the Once Upon a Time in Texas series, and now I'm interested to read any books that may follow. There were a few residents of the small town who popped up throughout the story that I wouldn't mind getting to know more. If you're on the lookout for a light, fun and sexy western romance, give this one a closer look.

About the Book:

In the New York Times tradition of Lori Wilde and Carolyn Brown comes the first book in a new western romance series from Forever debut author Carly Bloom about a no-strings cowboy fling with a fairy tale twist. Who's afraid of the big, bad cowboy? After one too many heartbreaks, Travis Blake hung up his cowboy hat and put Big Verde, Texas, behind him. But when he gets the call that his young nephew needs him, he knows he has to return home. His plan is to sell the family ranch and hightail it back to Austin, but there's a small problem: the one person who stands in his way is the one person he can't resist. Maggie is pretty sure she hates Travis Blake. He's irritating, he's destroying her business, and . . . and he's just so frickin' attractive. But when they're forced to work together, Maggie discovers that the Most Annoying Man in the World is more than he seems. He's sweet with his nephew, he helps out in the community, and he makes her heart flutter. Maggie doesn't want to risk everything on a man who wants to leave, but what if she can convince this wayward cowboy to stay?
