Review (New Release): The Heart of Him by Katie Fox

About the Book:

Sixteen months ago, Cassidy Porter lost the love of her life. Every day since has been a battle to carry on, but despite what her mother and sister say, she’s making progress—or is she? When she receives an invitation to attend a banquet in honor of the organ donors and their recipients, she has every reason to guard what remains of her shattered heart. Maybe this will be the closure she needs to finally mend its pieces. For the last twenty-eight years, Samuel Copeland has been afraid to live. Diagnosed with a genetic heart condition, he knows better than anyone that second chances don’t come along often. Since his transplant, he spends his days in the local coffee shop, watching and observing, trying to make sense of all he’s been given. Grateful doesn’t begin to describe it. When the opportunity to meet the person who was closest to his selfless donor presents itself—a chance to say thank you for saving him—he takes it. What’s the worst that can happen? Brought together by fate—or perhaps, something else entirely—the two form an unexpected bond, one that has them both asking: can two hearts be destined only to beat for each other?

My Thoughts:

It feels like it's been a while since a book has gripped me like this; since I've been so consumed by the story unfolding before my eyes. This book is everything I'd been waiting for. I was moved by the beauty of the writing, the emotional storyline, and the realness of the characters. Both main characters find themselves at a place in life where they're unsure of how to move forward. Cassi is lost- almost stuck- in her grief, while Sam has been given a second chance that he's not quite sure how to handle. My. Gosh. Every doubt, each painful memory, the glimmers of hope, and the happiness that was experienced as Cass and Sam's relationship evolved- at each step of their emotional journey, I felt as though I were right there in the moment with them. I was connected to them and fully invested in their happiness. Katie truly had me lost in the pages for the few short hours it took me to read the story. The Heart of Him is a novel I would not hesitate to read again myself, or recommend to others. I loved it. If you want a heartwarming, emotional and angst-filled romance, you’ve found it right here.
