Review: Fragments of Ash by Katy Regnery (New Release)
Fragments of Ash is a gripping modern day retelling of Cinderella. I was intrigued from the beginning of the story and I couldn't put it aside until I reached the end. It's twisted and dark mixed together with hope and light. After the death of her mother, Ashley is presented with a horrendous future. With the help of her Godfather Gus, Ash flees and hides away to save herself from her cruel and sadistic stepfather and the horrible and unimaginable plans he has in store for her. Once she arrives at her safe place, this is where she meets Julian. His reception of Ashley is not warm in the least, but as the days go by things begin to change between them. The attraction is obvious, but they really take their time getting to know each other and building a bond of trust. The romance is slow burning, and I really felt the connection as is grew and developed between them. The only part I felt would have benefited from further details and expansion was the climax and ending. These parts of the story felt quick and rushed. Overall, Fragments of Ash is an entertaining story. If you love fairytale retellings that are a little more Grimm's and a little less Disney sunshine, check it out!
