Beach Reads: Review of Cooper's Charm by Lori Foster
Synopsis
One summer, two sisters and a chance to start over… Before the burglary that shattered her confidence, Phoenix Rose had a fiancé, a successful store and a busy, happy existence. After months spent adrift, she takes a job at the lakeside resort of Cooper’s Charm. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, friendly colleagues and a charismatic, widowed boss, Phoenix is slowly inching her way back into the world. Visiting Cooper’s Charm to check up on her little sister, Ridley Rose impulsively agrees to fill in as housekeeper. Still reeling from an ego-bruising divorce, she finds satisfaction in a job well done—and in the attention of the resort’s handsome scuba instructor. For Phoenix and Ridley, Cooper’s Charm is supposed to be merely temporary. But this detour may lead to the place they most need to be, where the future is as satisfying as it is surprising…
Review
Cooper's Charm had a very cute and sweet feel with a nice touch of heat. It was a quick and easy beach read. The story focuses on two sisters who are both trying to move on and start anew. I liked the portrayal of the close bond between Phoenix and Ridley and I found it admirable how supportive they were of each other. Both women ended up finding love interests when they least expected it, and I thought it was nice having two romances within the story. While at times in the beginning the plot pacing was slow, I found that both relationships (Phoenix+Cooper and Ridley+Baxter) moved at quick speed. It seemed that there was barely a conversation between any of them and then they were so into each other the next moment. I wished there were a few more meaningful interactions between each respective relationship to build and develop the connection. That said, I did come to like both pairings. There is very minimal drama in the book- which is fine- but the suspense element and conflict that was there felt as though it wasn't needed. In the end, what I enjoyed about the book outweighed what I didn't, so it was overall a pleasant read. If you're in the mood for something light-hearted, consider Cooper's Charm for your next vacation read.
