Blurb

He was forbidden, my boss and incapable of loving me.

People talked about him, whispered about him in passing.

He was the king of his town.

And I was a visitor.

I was by no means a smart girl. Never loved with my head, always with my heart.

That fact alone almost killed me once.

I should have listened the second time around.

But the king of this small town, had me starving. Had me craving his taste.

My name is Kandi, and he called me his Kandiland.

The king declared I was his medicine, and with each dose, he became better and better.

He was the perfect liar.

And I was his perfect Kandi.

Together, we were explosive, and toxic in every way.

Review

I loved the cover when I saw it and the blurb had me intrigued. The prologue was interesting and the book was off to a promising start, but somewhere along the way my excitement fizzled. I'll start with Kandi, I had a hard time connecting with her. She was kind, caring and quirky-qualities that I did admire in her. But I found her to be quite weak, she lacked strength in my eyes. There were times where she went head to head with Huxley, something that no one else in the town would dare to do, but those moments were few and far between. It was disappointing.

Huxley, he's the King of Candy and is a respected, dangerous, and feared man. How he became "The King" and owner of most of Candy, was completely far-fetched. I needed further exploration of his past and a more detailed explanation as to what exactly he did to earn the amount of money he had. He was 18 when he started selling drugs and doing "other things", and by the time he was 20 it's as if he had an empire. The way it was presented made it not at all plausible to me. There's a bit of back and forth between the MC's, a ton of sexual tension, and then some extreme steam. They have a no strings attached arrangement. I will say that the intimate scenes were satisfying. Sizzling hot and sexy! Eventually, it becomes much more than physical, feelings are added into the mix even though both parties are in complete denial about that fact. The problem for me as the reader, I was also in denial. I felt no emotional connection between the characters. They had passion, but their entire relationship felt like it started and stopped at lust and sexual compatibility. I never had that, "oh they're falling/in love" moment. If you like red-hot contemporary romance, and you love intense Alpha heroes, give Kandiland a try. Unfortunately for me I did not connect to the main characters or invest in their relationship, so the romance did not work for me. However, I did enjoy some of the side characters, and although I saw it coming, I also enjoyed the little twist in the plot!
