Review

Mia Sheridan’s MORE THAN WORDS was one of my most anticipated June reads and I’m happy to say that I enjoyed it very much. It’s a sweet and angsty ‘tug on your heart’ kind of read. Callen and Jessica formed a very strong bond when they first met as young pre-teens. For a couple years they shared many adventures in the old boxcar, but unbeknownst to Jessie, their meetings would come to an abrupt end. A decade later, both now adults, it’s as if by fate they are reunited and the pull between them cannot be easily ignored. Their renewed friendship quickly blossoms into something more, and their connection grows stronger as the story moves forward. Callen and Jessica both struggled with their individual insecurities and fears, but they were also very cute and charming. Sheridan had my heart aching for the characters at certain points in the story, but there was still always that feeling of hope rising above. One thing I personally would have preferred a little less of, was the time spent focused on parts of Jessica’s job and the translations of the ‘parallel love story’ within. More Than Words is a combination of friends-to-lovers and second chance romance. I read the book quickly, it was engaging and held my interest from beginning to end.

Synopsis

The moment she met Callen Hayes, eleven-year-old Jessica Creswell knew he was a broken prince. Her prince. They became each other's refuge, a safe and magical place far from their troubled lives. Until the day Callen kissed her--Jessica's first real, dreamy kiss—and then disappeared from her life without a word. Years later, everyone knows who Callen Hayes is. Famous composer. Infamous bad boy. What no one knows is that Callen's music is now locked deep inside, trapped behind his own inner demons. It's only when he withdraws to France to drink his way through the darkness that Callen stumbles into the one person who makes the music return. Jessica. His Jessie. And she still tastes of fresh, sweet innocence . . . even as she sets his blood on fire. But they don't belong in each other's worlds anymore. There are too many mistakes. Too many secrets. Too many lies. All they have is that instinctive longing, that need—and something that looks dangerously like love.
