Review: The Intern, Volume One by Brooke Cumberland

The Intern: Volume One is the start to a three-part suspense-romance series. Cecilia is a young, vibrant and snarky 18-year-old high-school student. She’s also a master-manipulator and a superb liar. All she wants is to uncover the truth behind what happened to her father when she was a child, and if it takes posing as her college age sister to land an Internship in a place where answers may be found, then she’s all in. Everything is going according to plan, until the sexual chemistry and tension between her and her boss becomes too much to handle. The relationship that developed between the main characters happened a bit fast for me, but their intimate encounters were certainly sizzling to the max! Bentley is total alpha male. He’s possessive, confident, controlled and has a domineering presence. But underneath all that, lies a vulnerability. He’s the future CEO of his family’s company, and women in the past have used him to gain info. He wants to trust Ceci, to believe she’s different, but can he? Should he? Secrets are kept, lies are told and lines are crossed. I loved where Brooke ended the first book! The perfect cliff-hanger. I’m not entirely connected to the characters yet, but I’m intrigued and eager to continue the series.
