Review: UNLOVED by Katy Regnery

Review

I’d been waiting on this book since Regnery announced it! When it landed on my kindle I was ready to dive right in, and I did. I read the entire book in a day, it was engaging and never lost my interest. Regnery’s writing is on point too, Unloved was a very well written story. I will admit that while I did love the story that was delivered, based upon the blurb, I had come to expect something that was a lot more gritty and raw- and it wasn’t.

Brynn is still grieving over the tragic loss of her fiancé. She stopped living, pushed others away, and has been unable and unwilling to move forward for the last two years. But something happens, and once she does decide it’s time to ‘put Jem’s soul to rest’, it’s like something has stirred her to life again. I felt for her and the pain of losing her loved one was devastating, but as the story moved forward I didn’t totally connect with her character.

Cassidy. I absolutely fell in love with Cassidy. He stole the show, and my heart simply ached for him. This man, this sweet, caring, gentle man, grew up believing that it was best to remain unloved and alone. He was told that there was a darkness within him that could easily be ignited by the flick of a switch, so to protect the world from the possibility of him turning into a monster, he lives a quiet, secluded life in the mountains. Until one day he saves a woman from a vicious attack on the mountains near his property and he doesn’t know what else to do but to bring her back to his home and care for her.

Brynn trusted Cassidy quite easily and the romantic feelings between the two characters developed very fast. It didn’t feel very realistic on her part, but for a man who hasn’t had human interaction in years, I believed in the immediate attraction Cass felt for Brynn. The rapid development of his feelings made sense.

Unloved was a compelling and unique read with a sweet twist of an ending most won’t come to expect! It made me feel a range of emotions in the short time it took me to start and finish it, but mostly I just wanted to pull Cass into my arms and give him a huge bear hug!
