BLURB

We were the seconds after a grip released the bar, body floating through the air with nervous wonder. Would we successfully grab it again, or would we hit the mat, shattered and defeated?

Peyton Adams learned a long time ago that selfish and detached is the only way to be in life. What most people call shameless or obnoxious behavior, she considers key to getting where she needs to go. Most disapproving of all? USA Gymnastics’ golden boy with an eight-pack, Jared Hargrove. After being cut from the women’s team right before Rio, Peyton is back on the post-Summer Games tour. Not only is she the only one without a gold medal, but her history with Jared won’t stay buried for long.

Control and good manners; the two things drilled into Jared Hargrove’s head from birth. As a four-time gold medalist, he’s always obeyed the rules and reaped the reward. Well, except for the whirlwind week four years ago in London when wild-child Peyton Adams finally got under his skin, and into his bed. She broke his heart, and he hasn’t removed the ice wall around it since. Now she’s back to redeem herself to the world of gymnastics, and it seems, to push his buttons more than ever.

After years of resentment and heartache, can they repair a relationship so badly broken that most people wouldn’t even try? Or will they continue to fall, grasping at any last emotion before they finally collapse?

MY REVIEW

~*Book 2 in the “Flipped” Series*~

This is the second novel in the “Flipped” series, but it can be read as a standalone. I did not read book one, so “Grasping Air” was my introduction into the world of Gymnastics themed sports romance. I may be in the minority, but for me, this was just an okay read.

While the story itself was interesting enough, I just didn’t find myself connecting to any of the characters. I wasn’t feeling the chemistry between our MC’s- Jared and Peyton- and I didn’t find their love for one another to be very believable.

A couple of other things bothered me while reading Grasping Air. One of them being the amount of times Jared’s aversion to cursing was mentioned. I grew a little bit tired of different characters pointing out- on many occasions- something along the lines of “oh you cursed, you never curse, you actually cursed…”

Lastly, towards the end, there is a scene that I found to be a tad unbelievable. I don’t want to give too much away but at an event such as the one they were at, would there really have been no one around to even try and prevent what happened? It seemed as though anyone who was there kind of just stood and watched as it happened and then started running to intervene and assist. Would security or medical personnel really be that far away? I’ve never competed in gymnastics but I’ve played other competitive sports and I just didn’t buy into this scenario. I could be wrong, maybe these things do happen, but that’s how I felt when I read it.

I’m sure there are many people who will find this to be a lovely and romantic read, but I just couldn’t connect, it fell a little flat for me.
